Hazel (Corylus avellana) is a native shrub in Western Europe in the birch family (Betulaceae).
The hazel is like the one Forsythia 'naaktbloeier "means the plant blooms when it has no leaves and is dependent on wind pollination. On the hazel are the male and female flowers separately. Male flowers are catkins in summer and are already present in the axils of the leaves. They are only going to bloom in January. The female flowers are three to four pieces in a small button together.
