Iresine

Iresine is a genus in the family Amaranthaceae (Amaranthaceae).

Description

Iresine species grow as a year to mostly perennial herbs, less often than climbing or self Shrubs or erect shrubs. The plants are smooth or hairy. The alternate or opposite leaves are evergreen, and simple. The leaf margin is smooth to serrate.

There are terminal compound, open, general panicled inflorescences, which are composed of part-year-old buds and pendant-year-old formed inflorescences with many flowers. The membranous carrier and bracts often shine.

The very small flowers are hermaphrodite or unisexual. The plants are mostly dioecious, unisexual (dioecious). There are only five available membranous bracts that have grown freely or at its base.

In the hermaphrodite and male flowers usually five fertile stamens are present. The filaments are fused at their base. In the female flowers the stamens are reduced and very small or absent. The zusammengedrücktwirkende ovary contains only one ovule.

It is more than a short (about 0.2 mm) pen available. There are two, rarely three scars exist. The fruit is globose to compressed and contained only one seed. The dark-red to reddish-brown, shiny seed is a lentil and kidney.
