The very Rare and Red-Listed Pink Wreath

The pink wreath (Antennaria dioica) is a plant belonging to the Compositae family (Asteraceae Compositae). The species is on the Dutch Red List of plants as very rare and very much reduced. The plant is found in the temperate regions of hetnoordelijk hemisphere and is also used in the ornamental garden.

The plant is 5-15 cm tall and has rose-bearing runners. The top of the leaves is green and the underside witviltig hairy. The shape of the root is spatula-shaped leaves and the stem-leaves lanceolate to linear.

The wreath pink flowers in May and June. Inflorescence a cyme. The flower stalk is unbranched and bears two to eight flowers. The plants come in groups, which includes female, male or both female and male plants can exist. The female heads are usually pink and the mostly white male. The carpels are top of ribbon-like flower. The heads consist entirely of tubular flowers.

The fruit is a nut.

The plant is found between short grass and heather on dry, poor soil-free food.
