Iochroma

Iochroma (Iochroma, syn. Chaenesthes Miers, Miers Cleochroma, Diplukion Raf., Valteta Raf.) Are a genus of the nightshade family (Solanaceae). The botanical name comes from Greek and means "violet color", thus takes on the purple color of many types of reference as well as the German name Violet bush. Their home are forests of the Neotropics.

Description

There are shrubs, some of which are twine or trees. Young branches and leaves are hairy and fluffy woolly. The alternate leaves are simple and entire, ovate to lanceolate and sit on a stem. The hermaphroditic, fivefold flowers are large and usually have bright colors.

The color range of most species goes from red to bluish red and violet to blue, and the shape of the flowers suggests that pollinators are the birds (Ornithophily). Some species also have orange, white or greenish flowers.

They are either in-flowered, up to 120-fold buds near the shoot apex or into 1 - to 15-flowered inflorescences in the axils of the lower leaves or all along the branches. The calyx is cup-fivefold with large teeth, two columns or bell-shaped.

The petals are a long, narrow or deformed bell-shaped tube, which is often slightly curved and widened in the middle. The tube has five or zehnzahn or lobed tips. The five stamens put in near the base of the corolla tube.

The style is thin and longer than the stamens. As a fleshy fruit, berry VIELSAM is formed which is surrounded by the growing cup for fruit ripening.
