Akebia

Akebia, also called blue cucumber wine, is a genus of the family Lardizabalaceae (Lardizabalaceae). The five species grow wild in mountainous forests in East Asia (China, Korea and Japan).

Description

There are tropical woody vines. They are rounded (not flattened). The flowering period is from April to May and the Balgfrüchte ripen from September to October.

Use

In Europe they are used because of their long Laubhaftung and its rapid growth to the facade planting as an ornamental plant, however, since it is easy to swallow not very common.

The 50-10 cm long, pink to purple and rather bizarre-looking fruits are edible and have a slightly gallenartigen, sweetish taste, they are eaten raw in Asia. The leaves can be used as a tea and the bark is regarded as a remedy.
